What’s up with WhatsApp? The widely used app recently rolled out some new updates and it’s time to get familiar with them to not appear too suaku!
By the way, the WhatsApp new update for Android is at Version 2.22.17.70 for Android OS 4.0.3 or above, while the WhatsApp new update for iPhone is at Version 22.16.77 for iOS 12.0 or later. Both were released in early August 2022.
Let’s check out some major WhatsApp new updates for 2022 here.
WhatsApp group member limit 2022
Don’t you feel so sad when you or your friend try to join a group and you get a message telling you the group is full? Isn’t WhatsApp supposed to be a social networking and communication tool? So what’s the point if you need to update twice in two groups due to small tech incapability?
Well, good news, peeps! In the WhatsApp new update 2022, the number of people allowed to participate in a single group chat has been doubled to 512.
This is great for huge groups such as BTO updates, emergency company/department-wide announcements, or even some good lobangs channel you’re in. Remember to mute notifications when you join, else prepare to have your phone keep buzzing incessantly.
WhatsApp reactions
In this WhatsApp new update download, our feelings are all validated. Unlike Telegram, which limits your reactions to just a few preset ones (unless you pay for premium status), the WhatsApp new update reaction grants you the super-emoji-power to react to a message with ANY EMOJI. Want to react to emojis with the same emoji reaction? You can too.
Could this be one of the best WhatsApp latest update features? We think so, not sorry if you don’t. Instead of leaving your boss with blue ticks, you can just react with an ACTUAL TICK on their message. No need to reply in actual words or give that corny thumbs-up emoji anymore!
Perhaps in the next update we can react with a whole string of emojis? Hear our plea, WhatsApp!
WhatsApp voice messages
Another new WhatsApp update launched earlier in April 2022 is the ability to change the design of your voice message bubble. It’s pretty cool to customise how you’d want the visualisation of your speech bubble to look like.
Earlier in February, WhatsApp allowed the feature that lets you play voice messages and audio files outside of chats. Great for those who’re tired of scrolling up a super long chat and string of voice messages (you know who you are) to access a single voice message.
Oh, and in January, we finally could pause and resume while recording voice messages. This is amazing for those among us who suddenly have to do something or if we lose our train of thought. This can be done by swiping up to lock your recording, and then tapping on the “pause” or “resume” buttons.
Also, did you know you can now playback WhatsApp voice messages at 1.5x or 2x speed (yeah like how some of us watch Netflix). This is great for friends, colleagues, or even bosses who love to leave loooong audio monologues. You can even preview your voice message as a draft before sending it off proper!
WhatsApp max file size limit
Annoyed when you’re trying to send a file on WhatsApp and it fails because your file is too big? We know there are always those file transfer sites or Google Drive at our disposal, but sometimes, dealing with clients or sending files via WhatsApp is the easiest (and quickest) route.
Anyway, now with data and internet speeds fast approaching the speed of light, it’s common to send and receive large files. We’re quite glad that with the Aug 2022 WhatsApp new update for download, we now can send and receive files that are up to 2GB in size! It was previously only 100mb.
WhatsApp Communities
Did you know there’s an upcoming feature called WhatsApp Communities? Well, on 14 April 2022, WhatsApp announced this feature on its website. Essentially, you can now link seemingly disparate WhatsApp groups that are actually under a similar organisation or interest group (like a school, company or BTO chat).
This allows messages meant for the entire WhatsApp Community to be broadcast to all, while keeping all the discussions within different groups separate. Admins of a WhatsApp Community will also be able to access tools such as announcement messages, and the ability to control which groups are included/excluded from the Community.
The official release date for WhatsApp Communities has yet to be known, but we heard it’s some time in the later part of 2022, and select groups will be able to see and test out this new tab.
